Bearded men around the globe often follow a day-to-day grooming routine. Usually these routines differ from one man to another, and many often have questions on how to take care of their beard and if they are doing things correctly.
Whilst grooming routines may differ, that doesn't mean one man is right, whilst the other is wrong. As long as the very basics are done correctly it's perfectly fine to establish what works best for you, as an individual, as well as your beard.
Today, I wanted to discuss the basics of beard care, and give you a few pointers in order to help keep both you and your beard on the right track.
Beards often face a lot of dirt and grime in our day to day living. You might find yourself in a position of work where your furry face takes the brunt of heavy dust, dirt and other chemicals.
It's important to wash our facial hair as and when it's needed, yet not over wash at the same time. But what do I mean by this? Let me explain. When choosing a suitable beard wash be sure you select a product that's been created with your beard in mind. If you choose to use your standard over the counter shampoos and conditioners, you'll often find such items can cause added problems, such as beard dryness, and can often irritate the skin below your fuzz, often resulting in ugly beard dandruff.
Much like the hair on your head, your beard does not require cleaning each day, and in doing so you might strip away the naturally formed oil that lightly coats each beard hair. So, rather than wash each time you take a shower, rinse your beard with warm water and gently towel dry, which will help your beard stay fresh and ready for the day ahead.
Try not to freak out, but trimming that glorious furry face of yours can actually help keep your beard in top condition. It's true, visiting your trusty barber every now and then will help keep those dreaded split ends at bay, and keep your face fuzz looking sharp, neat and tidy.
If you trust you own trimming skills you could always trim your whiskers in the comfort of your own home. Although I would only recommend this if you are confident it your trimming abilities. Otherwise leave it to the professionals, as mistakes are quickly made and take much longer to grow back in return.
If you've become a regular reader of our blog, you'll have probably noticed my words of praise for beard oils and balms. But without them, ours beards would be dry, brittle and somewhat tatty.
Your beard benefits so much from a good naturally balanced beard oil/balm. It helps repair and damaged hairs it finds, as well as provide much needed moisture to both your beard and your face's skin hidden away below the fuzz.
It might sound like somewhat of a gimmick, but trust me when I tell you this, without the use of a good quality beard oil and/or balm your beards hair will become weak and brittle to the touch. Which overtime will begin to die out rather than flourish into a long marvelous beard that you deserve it to be. You have so much to gain from choosing the right tools for the job, so why not take a moment to come visit our exclusive 'The Beard Struggle' online store and see what our loyal customers have said about our oils for yourself.
'But how can you train your beard?' I hear you all ask. It's really rather simple to do, and if done correctly, you'll soon have a more manageable beard in next to no time.
When your beard begins to reach a certain length, unless you are one of lucky ones who has perfect genetics, the chances are your beard will grow out rather wild and unruly, which if left to it's own devices can look a bloody great big scraggy mess. You'll want to begin training your beard in which direction you'd like it to grow by using a trusty beard comb and a splash of beard oil.
Start by applying a little product into your beard, deeply massaging right down to the routes. Then begin combing through your face fluff following the direction you desire your beard to grow in. Over time if you stick with this your beard will begin to soften and become much more manageable in the process, granting you better control of those once wild whiskers. But please note, this won't happen overnight. You've got to stick with it, as persistence is everything here, Brother.
So, there you have it, a simplistic strategy for all 'beardy's' to follow that could result in the beard you so rightfully desire and deserve.
