So, First we all got slammed for carrying more poop in our beards that a toilet brush. Then we debugged that ''study'' as nothing more but a load of sh*t itself. Now, according to another brand new study scientists have completely smashed past studies and have since come to the conclusion that beards could actually be beneficial to our health!
When reading this yesterday my first thoughts were how can one alleged study suggest one thing for another to prove the complete opposite? Before delving into the facts, let's refer back to another 'Beardlog' post where we completely debugged the beard poop study as total nonsense. Whereas this latest study has actually been carried out by the BBC and will be featured in a broadcast arriving on our tellies soon!
Here's what the studies from the BBC have discovered...
Beards may produce a bacteria of which could potentially be developed into new antibiotics. Researchers discovered that a clean shaven gent were actually more likely to produce infection causing bacteria resistant to antibiotics compared to a bearded fellow.
This study took place when 408 hospital staff members without facial hair were swabbed. According to the information gathered a clean shaven man was three times more likely to be carrying methicillin-resistant staph aureus (Fancy big words, aye!) smartly known as MRSA on their faces.
Clean shaven men are also more likely to have traces of Staphylococcus aureus, a bacteria that causes skin irritation, respiratory infections and can even lead to food poisoning!
The theory is that micro-abrasions which are caused by razors when shaving the skin could cause bacterial colonization and proliferations.' Phew! And to think i only pulled out the simpler words from the study to try and explain the recent findings!
The report included the following statement - ''Overall, colonisation is similar in male healthcare workers with and without facial hair, however, certain bacterial species were much more prevalent in workers without facial hair.''
Dr. A. Roberts of the University College of London grew over 100 different bacteria gathered from swabs taken from bearded gentlemen for separate analysis. He tested against a form of E.coli that causes urinary tract infections, he discovered the presence of a microbe that counteracted against the nasties in the bacteria, which proved to be actually killing it!
This proves that further studies are set to take place for a closer investigation.
So, to simplify the reports for a clearer understanding it proves that you're a lot more unlikely to produce or contract such nasties if you beard yourself up. And your beards could be capable of producing something to help fight certain bacterias. So scratch and the poop bear nonsense and continue to sport your beards proudly! All in all it seems the safer option to beard up! And I, for one will happily cheers to that!
Thanks for taking the time to read, and I'll see you again next week!
