If you are anything like me, you've probably had your unwanted share of 'bad beard days'. Yes, they are real and tend to happen at the most inconvenient of times. Much like your good lady who complains of having a 'Bad hair day', beardies around the globe will also experience similar issues, only within the beard rather than the hair on your head. Not only can this knock a man's confidence, but it also proves rather unsightly too. Thankfully there's a few tricks to the trade that can help detangle and tame and unruly curly wild beard, and after me, myself and I have tried and tested these methods, I'd like to share my knowledge with you all...
Firstly, we need to try (try being the key word here, as I get my fancy head on!) and discover what causes some beards to be over curly in comparison to another. And it all boils down to the shape of your beards hair follicles. Symmetrical hair follicles will grow out much straighter hair particles that will lay flatten out in comparison to asymmetrical, which will grow almost oval like, which will produce a much higher curve to your beards hair, which often progresses very curly the longer it becomes.
So, how do you go about correcting the kink in your beard? Firstly, let's tick off what NOT to do. Some beardy gents opt in to use both hair straighteners as well as hair dryers when it comes to your day to day grooming routine. Although I strongly advise against them. The reason I'm not overly keen on using such instruments upon your marvel of a face forest is simply because these tools were not designed with your beard in mind. Imagine blasting extra waves of heat directly through your beard and onto the skin below. Even on the lowest heat setting you're running the risk of drying out your face and fuzz which is a sure fire way of adding a whole host of problems later on down the line. Although the results might appear beneficial short term, you're likely to experience higher levels of split ends deep within your beard, as well as dry itchy spots and if you're real unlucky itchy 'beard-ruff' too. The better option it to gently towel dry your face and beard, leaving things slightly damp for some trusty 'TBS' beard care product.
Here's my usual routine, once I'm out of the shower and have towel dried my beard I apply a generous helping of our 'TBS' beard balm. The reason I choose to use our 'TBS' balms rather than our oils is because on 'bad beard days' our balms will grant you extra hold and better control when it comes to an unruly beard. Oils provide the same form of protection and benefits, only they work a little better on a well behaving beard, whereas a wild fuzzy face can be better managed with the use of balms.
When using any product within your beard it's also well advised to guide your beard into a good shape by using either a brush or comb. This will help even out the product through the beard whilst training your beard to sit right where you'd like it to be. Given a period of time following a strict routine most beards will begin to tame out and become much more manageable, give or take the odd 'beard beard day' every now and again.
If you follow the above advice and stick with it you'll begin to see real results given a little extra time and TLC. Unfortunately there is no instant or overnight magical quick fix to be had. But discovering a routine that works well for you as an individual and running with it will prove highly beneficial in the long run. Take it from me, before I knuckled down and took my day to day grooming routine a little more serious I had way more 'bad beard days' then I would care to admit. But given a little overtime and commitment shown by myself the results soon spoke for themselves.
And that sees today's beard blog come to a sweet close for now. As always let us hear your comments or questions you might have in the box you'l find provided below.
