Life often has a way of testing ones patience from time to time, but us bearded folks often have added daily challenges that those without facial hair will never have to contend with, so today here's a short list of real life 'Beard Struggles' every bearded man will understand...
EATING CERTAIN FOODS CAN BECOME A MAMMOTH OF A TASK!
This was one of the most challenging changes I had to overcome when I first grew out my facial forest, eating previously unchallenging foods. Now I've always enjoyed grabbing a bite to eat whilst on the go, but now with those furry chops of yours this might be much trickier then you could've ever predicted it to be. After all, these scrummy foods are to be tasted and enjoyed, not worn throughout your beard and destroyed! Cheeseburgers, pizzas, noodles, soups can now be a super tricky task to conquer. But given a little extra time and a whole lot of patience you can overcome such hurdles, only now in bite sized proportions from here on in though.
YOU'LL BE SEEN AS AN OBJECT THAT EVERYONE WILL WANT TO TOUCH!
Now this might seem like a dream come true to many blokes out there, but just to be clear (and to keep things clean, you dirty minded individual!) I'm referring to your beard! I spoke a little on this in my last beard blog, It appears once we flourish out our beard-mane our furry chops appear to become a little irresistible to those around us. And you'll soon find yourself being fondled (again, referring to the beard! tut tut!) with or without your permission. Now, the majority of times this is of course pretty harmless, but when your beard is on point it can be a little annoying having people asking 'Hey, can I touch your beard?' when they've already in fact reached out and grabbed a handful of it. All in all it's a good thing. But a beard struggle only the bearded would understand nevertheless.
DRINKING YOUR FROTHY COFFEE OR PINT OF BEER CAN PROVE A LITTLE STICKY OF A TASK TOO!
We've already discussed the complications of eating certain messy foods whilst trying to avoid wearing your food instead of eating it. Well, the same sadly applies for many drinks out there too. When you first set out on your beard growing journey it's very easily to overlook this issue, but as your beard starts to grow out into a much fuller beard and in particular your newly sprouted mustache can prove a tricky customer to work around. The key is to always use a straw whenever possible or even better one of those 'no spill' coffee cup style lids. When arriving home after a gruelling day at work go as wild as you wish, just be sure to give that furry face a good clean down afterwards.
YOUR BEARD CAN PROVE TO BE RATHER HIGH MAINTENANCE!
When you first thought about growing out a beard you may have pondered a thought to all that time you'll now save not having to pick up that dreaded razor to hack away at your daily stubbly growth. Whilst you do save a ton of time to begin with, keeping that glorious beardy bush at the top of its game looking clean and fresh can prove just as time consuming as your former clean shaving routine you once had, if not even longer in most cases! Beards usually grow with little to no extra assistance needed by us, but to keep your beard looking sharp you do need to take good care of it. Applying beard oils and balms, as well as combing and brushing your facial forest may swallow up your time, but I'm certain you'd agree that the end result is well worth it!
VENTURING OUTSIDE IN THE WINTER MONTHS FREEZES YOUR FACIAL FOREST!
This problem is very real, and in some ways rather humorous to others too. When those frosty winter months come into play and we venture outside into the great (but rather cold!) wide world and take a couple of deep breaths our beards often freeze over. 'How does this happen?' I hear you ask. Well, there is a rather simple explanation for this, and it's caused by the condensation we create as we breath freezing up. And we all know how important breathing is too right? I mean, a life without breathing doesn't exist!... Literally! So, keeping those frosty chops at bay is virtually impossible unless you choose to wrap up your face with a balaclava or a scarf. Both of which can prove to be a somewhat uncomfortable choice of head wear.
BEARD DANDRUFF IS REAL AND IT'S RATHER UGLY!
In past blog posts I've highlighted some really useful tips to help keep the 'beardruff' at bay. But sadly for us beardos beardruff can easily become a huge problem. Often caused by a busy lifestyle your dead skin particles have to go somewhere. An unfortunately for us, they often like to congregate below our wonderful beard-manes which can add to the dreaded 'Beard itch' that nobody wants to fall a victim of then resulting in ugly beardruff. Maintaining a healthy care routine can help keep the 'druff' at an all time minimum, so try not to sweat it too much.
That's another beard blog post wrapped up for today. As always let us know your thoughts in the comments section kindly provided below!
